The Town of Crested Butte Department of Public Works will be flushing fire hydrants May 12th through May 23rd.
Flushing is done to remove sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution pipes. During the flushing process, you may experience some water discoloration, especially when work is being done in your immediate neighborhood. Any discoloration only affects the aesthetic qualities of the water. If you see a crew flushing a hydrant on your street, avoid running tap water and using the washing machine or the dishwasher until the flushing is done. If you encounter discolored water, shut the water off and wait several minutes. After waiting, check the clarity by running cold water for a few minutes, allowing new water to work its way into your pipes. Hot water tanks can hold discolored water for some time after the cold water runs clear. If pressure or volume seems low, check your faucet screens for trapped particles. If you have any questions contact the Town of Crested Butte Water Treatment Plant at 349-0885. Thank you.
The large snowpack in Gunnison County could cause flooding during spring run-off.
